Kevin M. Silberberg, Ed.D.Dr. Kevin Silberberg is Superintendent of the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District, one of the largest K-8 school districts in California. Appointed to the position in 2013, Dr. Silberberg is directing an ambitious comprehensive reform effort designed to meet rigorous academic standards and narrow the achievement gap for over 18,000 students. The results have been outstanding! Dr. Silberberg has had a varied career as a superintendent, “National Blue Ribbon” principal, teacher and university faculty member, as well as chairing the “Digital Learning” subcommittee for the California Department of Education. Currently he is the Chair of the Technology Learning Group within the Association of California School Administrators combining his experience using technology from the boardroom to the classroom. Along with an Educational Technology Doctorate from Pepperdine University, his focus has been, and will always be, utilizing 21st century tools to increase success and decrease student failure.
Dr. Silberberg has received numerous awards for leadership from school districts, associations, state and federal departments of education and this year was named “Leader of the Year” at the Computer Using Educators National Conference. In 2016 he received two distinguished state awards. Named California’s Outstanding Instructional Leader from the Association of Supervision Curriculum Development and the 2016 “Technology Administrator of the Year” from the Association of California Administrators. Dr. Silberberg received his B.A. and M.A. from Point Loma College, and an Ed.D. from Pepperdine University.
Financially, Panama-Buena Vista is strategically positioning itself to weather the storms that come with declining state support. The District remains AA-rated by Standard & Poor’s and was awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2016.
Also under Dr. Silberberg’s leadership, major renovations are occurring from past bond approvals, and a Facilities long-range plan will ensure safe, sound and efficient educational environments for all students.
