Welcome to 8th Grade Mathematics! I am excited to assist your child in having a successful 8th grade year in mathematics. I believe that all students are capable of greatness and hold high expectations for every student that I have the privilege of teaching each year. As a mother of six children, I understand the complex relationship that exists between parents and junior high students. Consistent communication is a very strong tool for student academic success. I believe that, together, we can help your student in achieving academic excellence and set a strong foundation for high school next year.
Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Bennett was born and raised in Bakersfield and loves our town. As a child, she spent the majority of her time in the dance studio where she studied ballet, tap, jazz, and acrobatics. She enjoyed competing in various dance competitions throughout California and cherishes the memories she later made taking her own students to compeitions. It was through teaching students dance that she first learned of the significant impact teachers can make in their students lives and still has relationships with several of her former dance students.
Mrs. Bennett attended Greenacres Elementary School, Fruitvale Junior High School, and graduated from Highland High School in 1991. She decided to go back to school as a single mother of two young sons and attended Bakersfield College and California State University Bakersfield where she earned her B.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Mathematics.
Mrs. Bennett's first year of teaching was at Emerson Middle School on an intern credential where she won "Intern of the Year" through California State University Bakersfield and Bakersfield City School District. After her first year at Emerson, Mrs. Bennett took a position for the district at a new middle school called "Three R's Academy." It was a small middle school located on Stiern Junior High's campus opened to adhere to the school choice aspect of NCLB. At Three R's Academy, she taught 6th through 8th grade Math, Science, and Algebra I and enjoyed the looping aspect of that position. Once the school closed, she accepted an Algebra I position at Stiern Junior High where she taught the GATE Algebra classes and remained there for several years.
Mrs. Bennett married her soulmate in 2009, forming their giant family, and and left teaching one year later to spend more time being a mother to her six children. However, after being at home with her 5 sons and 1 daughter for a couple years, she began missing being in the classroom and accepted her 8th grade math position at Actis. Mrs. Bennett loves her Actis family and couldn't imagine teaching anywhere else. She is very passionate about showcasing the strengths of Actis students at Math Field Day, proving each year that Actis Americans are among the mathematically elite in Kern County! She is very proud of every graduating class of Actis Americans and looks forward to meeting her new students each year.
When Mrs. Bennett isn't teaching (or preparing to teach), she enjoys spending time with her family, squeezing some time with girlfriends, and decorating with her handmade home decor made from pallet wood. She loves watching her children grow into adults and cherishes the time she is able to spend with her only granddaughter that lives out of state. Mrs. Bennett looks forward to her already large family becoming larger and larger as her children get married and have families of their own. She is very aware that the best is yet to come and is thankful for the life and opportunity to enhoy it that she has been given.
