    Welcome to Our Classroom

It is a joy and an honor to be part of the wonderful teaching staff here at  Stockdale Elementary School, home of the Stars.   I believe that a great education is the foundation of an extraordinary life; and within every child is extraordinary potential.  That potential can be tapped and unwrapped through varied instructional strategies that address different learning modalities.  One of my favorite ways to teach is through art as it addresses essential learning skills such as paying attention and listening and following directions.  It touches upon core standards in math such as  geometry and measurement.  It teaches appreciation for visual arts and opens students up to new authors, illustrators, styles, and techniques.   Third Grade is such an important year as students grow from "learning to read" to "reading to learn."  I am a strong believer in the three R's-- Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic.  Third Grade core literature is filled with engaging stories that fuel creative writing and art projects.  Guided writing is an essential learning component that builds students' confidence in their own writing.  The math program is heavy-duty, with learning goals in multiplication, division, decimals, and fractions.

Our class website is a great resource for parents and students to keep track of homework, due dates, current instruction, accessing resources, field trips, and other upcoming events.  The classroom calendar is where you can find information on homework.

My life beyond teaching is great!   I am a graduate of UCLA (Go, Bruins!) who loves spending time with my husband, who teaches and coaches track at Arvin HS, and my two wonderful sons at Stockdale HS, who are also in Track & Field.  We love water-skiing and knee-boarding, traveling to Hawaii, going to the movies, hiking in Runyon Canyon, Seinfeld, going to Universal Studios, and playing with our three beautiful Siberian Huskies.

I feel fortunate to be a part of your child's life.  On behalf of our class, thank you for visiting our  website.  I invite you to contact me via email at swatson@pbvusd.k12.ca.us or by phone at 661*831*8331 should you have any inquiries.
